  • Check the chamber and magazine tube thoroughly.
  • Remove all ammunition from your work area.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment

Tools Required

  • Internal snap ring pliers
  • Small hammer
  • Punch set (or appropriately sized drill bits as substitutes)

Upgraded Trigger Parts

  1. Benelli M4 Enhanced Aluminum Trigger Guard
  2. Benelli M4 Trigger Group
  3. Benelli M4 Extended Carrier
  4. Benelli M4 Enhanced Safety

If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, please seek help from a skilled gunsmith.

Tip: As you disassemble the components, lay them out in order from left to right. This makes reassembly significantly easier.

Disassembly

1. Place your thumb over the hammer. Pull the trigger and slowly release the hammer forward under control.

2. Remove the C-clip using snap ring pliers.

3. Pinch the carrier rod and spring between your fingers, compress the spring, and pull the assembly out. Remove the washer from the end of the rod.

4. Push the hammer bushing rod and shell release lever about one-quarter of the way through to relieve tension from the hammer spring.

5. Pull the hammer bushing completely out.

6. Remove the hammer, hammer spring, and hammer spring cap.

7. Remove the carrier components.

8. Remove the shell release lever. Take care not to damage the attached spring.

9. Push the front trigger pin just far enough to remove the shell latch spring.

10. While holding your thumb over the trigger (it is under spring tension), remove the first trigger pin completely.

11. Use a punch to remove the disconnector pin. Be cautious, as it is also spring-loaded.

12. Remove the rear trigger pin with a punch.

13. Drive out the safety roll pin using a punch. Before fully removing the punch, cover the opening with your thumb to prevent the spring from ejecting.

14. Remove the safety detent and spring.

15. Remove the safety button.

Close up of disassembly order:

Reassembly

1. Insert the safety button. It is ambidextrous—right-handed users typically install it from the right side, and vice versa.

2. Insert the safety spring and detent.

Note: The safety spring is slightly longer than the disconnector spring (they look similar)

3.

Use a drill bit to hold the spring in place through the side hole. From the top hole, use another drill bit to push the spring downward and into position beneath the first bit. Once aligned, push the first drill bit fully through.

Install the roll pin from the opposite side, tapping it in while pushing the drill bit out. The roll pin should sit flush with the trigger guard when fully installed.

4. Insert the rear trigger pin completely.

5. Insert the front trigger pin just enough to retain the shell latch spring. Ensure the spring’s hook faces downward.

6. Reassemble the trigger and disconnector:

Insert the disconnector spring and plunger into the top hole. Align the disconnector and trigger holes, then install the small pin through the side hole. You can also use another punch to hold the disconnector and trigger together while you press in the small pin.

7. Install the trigger spring into the bottom of the trigger.

8. Insert the trigger and disconnector into the trigger guard upside down to prevent the spring from falling out.

The square opening at the rear of the trigger hooks onto the rear trigger pin. Press down on the trigger to align the front hole, then fully insert the front trigger pin.

9. Hook the shell release lever onto its spring, then rotate it upward until it locks into place.

10. Reassemble the carrier components as originally arranged. Insert the pin from the inside (not the outside).

11. Install the carrier latch group.

12. Install the hammer spring, hammer cap, and hammer. The hammer hook should point toward the rear.

13. Insert the hammer bushing from the right side. Align all holes and push it in until flush.

14. Cock the hammer back into position.

15. If using a polymer trigger housing, reinstall the carrier washer. (Skip this step for aluminum housings.)

16. Reinsert the carrier rod through the washer and into the rear of the carrier leg.

17. Reattach the C-clip.
